Rohm and Haas Chicago Heights Plant
Closure Expected for Sept. 2002
l As part of its worldwide effort to streamline its organizational structure, work process and non-manufacturing resources, Rohm and Haas will cease manufacturing operations at its Chicago Heights, IL plant. The closure, expected by Sept. 30, 2002, will result in the elimination of 41 positions. A small number of employees will continue to operate a product-transfer station on-site, according to the company. Manufacturing of emulsions, which are used in cement modifiers, interior and exterior house paints and industrial coatings, will be moved to the company’s Kankakee, IL, facilities.
“This was a tough decision for everyone concerned,” said plant manager, Jim Ryan. “Chicago Heights’ employees are talented, hard working, productive and dedicated. The decision, however, had to take into account how each facility would best be positioned within the manufacturing network to enhance cost, efficiency and ultimately, customer satisfaction,” he added.
